Decommissioning of offshore structures-I: It is possible to be creative
May 15:
Decommissioning of offshore structures is a problem that the Indian E&P industry may have to face sooner than later. 8Decommissioning involving steel platforms in shallow water is an easier job than dismantling more complex structures in deeper water. 8Removing offshore infrastructure is typically the best way to minimise environmental and safety risks, but there is scope in some cases for re-use or re-purposing. 8More than 500 platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, for example, have already been converted to permanent artificial reefs. 8There are also potential synergies with other ocean industries, including offshore wind as well.
