Small scale LNG solutions for inland waterway transport systems have made a lot of headway of late
8And much of these advances are now being sought to be implemented in India
The following benchmarks can now be achieved for ferries:
8Bunkering, for example, can be done directly from a tank trailer under the following conditions:
-- 40-60 m3/h bunkering flow
-- Bunkering of 10-40 m3 per bunker operation
-- Bunkering operation duration of 15 minutes
-- Zero-emission bunkering
Click on Reports for more Details
The idea of modern day inland bunkering is to create a boxed system, where the LNG is transported by semi-trailers from a terminal to the port.
8Rather than establishing a large, permanent tank at the port, companies are now creating a mobile supply chain placing the LNG storage on the road, thereby minimizing the capex for the customer.
8At the time the truck driver parks the semi-trailer at the bunkering unit, it is in fact perceived as a permanent installation.
8In locations with less volumes, the the gas supplier replaces the semi-trailer a couple of times a week, with a ferry consuming as little as consumes between 10-12 m3 per day.
8The structures are therefore highly modular and you can build as your grow.
8What is interesting is that such a plant can be fully automatic and requires no permanent staff on shore.

The Canadian Prime Minister's trip to India has highlighted the possibility of the country tapping its vast hydrocarbon resources to export oil & gas to India.
8But Canada will need to look beyond North America’s borders to get its resources to the coast for global export.
8The country can be internationally competitive given its low production cost but without access to emerging markets, such as China and India, it will be difficult to maintain its competitiveness in the long run.

Are India’s troubled relations with its two nuclear-powered neighbours China and Pakistan heading towards a thaw?
8The question is being increasingly asked in strategic circles in New Delhi after two recent events.
8First, Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale paid an unannounced visit to China and second India has reportedly invited Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Pervaiz Malik to an informal multilateral conference to be held in the Indian capital on March 19-20.
8There is speculation that both the events could pave the way for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to China for the multilateral Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in June this year and revive the canceled SAARC Summit in Pakistan this year-end.

8The data above shows that it consumptions is staying ahead of other industrial fuels.
8One possible reason for higher petcoke consumption could be the high cost of imported LNG, which makes petcoke a relative cheaper fuel.

EPC companies are rediscovering themselves in the new world order of fluctuating oil prices, evolving customer demands, emerging geopolitical forces, and shrinking margins.
8However, the most important influence has been disruptive technologies, without which achieving efficiency and cost-effectiveness would have been an uphill battle.
8With the Internet of Things (IoT), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and analytics invading the traditional space, there is no choice but to pay attention and adapt.
8Some EPC companies are already accelerating their journey on the transformation roadmap.
8And among them. few have created their own roadmaps

The role of the EPC company will have to exceed beyond being general contractors
8They will be required to stand out as true integrators of emerging technologies. To realize this, these companies must be integrated within their own organization and with customers, suppliers, and sub-contractors in meaningful and innovative ways.
8There will be a need to increasingly employ a NextGen workforce, with younger, less experienced, but more tech-savvy employees.
8Future organization models need to re-orient themselves to collaborate and converge current silos.
8To sum up, the Next Generation EPC companies need to re-imagine their business using an approach which will encompass

2017 performance by E&P equipment and service providers are pouring in and they continue to be dismal
8A global seismic services company says that while there is renewed interest, rates will be slower climbing up on account of massive over capacity
8Exactly the same advisory is ringing out from a very large offshore equipment and service provider who posted a lackluster 2017 performance
8There is a lag effect between revival of interest and a revival of rates

After an initial fright, coal demand seems to be going through a revival of sorts
8The projection is that global coal power generation capacity is going to increase 15% by 2030 Nearly 300 GW of coal-fueled capacity is currently being built in Asia over next 5 years
8Despite what the climate lobby is saying, against the total coal-based capacity declines of 125 GW from 2017- 2030 in the developed world, fresh capacity to the tune of 439 GW gets added on in this period
8One of the world's largest producers of coal has taken in a 12% increase in global supply through 2022 into its calculations

The use of gas in power generation is getting hemmed in by pressures from both direction, from coal as well as from renewable energy
8Coal is clearly a cheaper option when compared to LNG all over the world. Most coal companies have cut cost reasonably enough to be able to stand up against gas even in places where gas is cheap.
8Coal enthusiasts are now trying to cycle high-efficiency low emission coal as the way out of the emission quagmire
8The revival of coal is backed up with strong demand as of now. Import demand from India is expected to continue growing well into the foreseeable future.
8For now, the going is good for most coal companies

How does India's oil & gas outlook look 20 years from now?
8India's oil output will not rise unlike what the present government wishes. In fact it is likely to decline by a quarter from current levels.
8But gas output will double.
8The renewable sector will grow to five times the current size. Renewables overtake gas and then oil by 2020 as the second largest source of energy production.
8But unlike in other places in the world, coal demand in India will up significantly in the next 20 years. Imports will go up by as much as 80% from now
8Since India's domestic oil output declines, imports will rise by 175% and account for 65% of the increase in energy imports, followed by gas (+291%).
8India will have to continue to deploy a huge amount of funds to imports to meets its requirement of oil and gas

There always has to be a counter-intuitive logic to everything
8The anti-climate change adherents claim that there is a powerful lobby working hard to create a panic situation when there is no real need for it.
8This logic is worth a view, particularly from the oil & gas industry point of view
8There is another counter-intuitive logic at work: if large institutional investors do divest their stocks in "dirty fuel" companies, as is being demanded by the climate change lobby, it will be good to pick them up
