There is huge contrast between India and China and how they fight air pollution.
8In China, there is a strong policy focus, while in India there is less of it.
8Hard data shows that emissions of particulate matter in China will be 40% lower by 2040, as energy consumption growth slows, the energy mix diversifies away from coal and strict pollution controls are enforced.
8In India, pollution will get worse by 2040, growing by 10% by then.
8Attempts will be made in India to curb pollution through tighter standards in the power and transport sectors, the replacement of traditional cooking fuels with LPG and ambitious targets for wind and solar
8But clearly this will not be enough.
8Deaths resulting directly from air pollution will continue to grow.

ONGC sources said that new rig tenders for the KG-DWN-98/2 block are unlikely to be floated anytime soon.
8The reason for that is that there is no immediate requirement for such rigs as development drilling work is not slotted immediately.
8The emphasis seems to be on pre-FEED and FEED at this moment.
8While discussions are going to be on for more precise cost estimation, the actual rig tendering process is some time away, sources said.
8Meanwhile, negotiations are still on for lowering the price of Transocean's semi-submersible rig in the 600-metre category.
8ONGC must drive through a hard bargain by using the Aban rig rate as a benchmark.
8Transocean's day rate was $127,000 for the rig Jack Bates but ONGC has refused to place the order unless the price is brought down.
8The international rig major's agent in India is the well connected Jubilant group, which owns the Hindustan Times, and they have a big clout in New Delhi's corridors of power.
8Only time will tell whether they will be able to extract a contract without giving in too much. Details
