GAIL has opposed BPCL's a recent attempt to dub the Mumbai-Manmad-Manglia-Bijwasan product pipeline as a dedicated pipeline and the public sector refiner's proposal for connecting Vadinar to the Manglia-Kota pipeline as an extension of the dedicated pipeline.
8GAIL claims that if this pipeline is taken as a dedicated pipeline, then it will have significant implications for other similarly placed product pipelines now thinking of expansion the network.

Will revised emission norms for thermal power plants result in a higher use of gas-based power in India?
8Or will coal based power still be cheaper than gas based generation?
Click on Reports for more
Details
The revised emission norms notified by the ministry of environment for thermal power projects (TPPs) are set to adversely impact operational coal-based capacity of 187 GW and under-development capacity of 74 GW.
8Coal-based power projects are required by the new norms to invest in additional equipment capital expenditure to comply with the revised emission norms which become effective from December, 2017
8It is estimated that this would entail a capital investment of Rs 0.6 crore to Rs 1 crore per MW.
8This in turn is likely to result in an increase in capital cost of generation for these projects by 13 paise to 22 paise per unit, depending on the capex incurred.
8In addition, it is also likely to result in extral O&M costs pertaining to additional equipments installed for complying with the revised emission norms.
8A lot of old power plants will not be able to cope with the new norms.

The oil industry is undergoing dramatic change and the boards of oil companies are now being increasingly subjected investor questions.
The website has collated a set of model questions that the company brass is likely to face in the future. Among the possible questions which could be asked are:
8What is the company’s outlook for future energy demand? What are the key outlook input assumptions and ranges tested with respect to
(i) speed and alignment of regional and national policy measures to deliver on the Paris Climate Agreement,
(ii) technology break-through and penetration (in particular, renewable energy, electric vehicles and energy demand profile), and
(iii) oil and carbon pricing?
8How and why do these assumptions diverge from actual trends and projections as well as other 2°C reference cases?
8What were the notable impacts of a 2°C scenario and did this analysis lead to significant changes to the strategy or business plan?
8In the event global temperature rises above 2°C, what physical climate-related impacts do you anticipate may impact the business?
8Do the company’s internal scenarios consider the negative macroeconomic impacts of climate change as raised by the World Bank and others, and how those might impact fossil fuel demand?

Both crude and gas production in India in October was significantly lower than target
8What is worrisome is that production is lower too in comparison to October, 2015
8There are structural reasons for the decline: output is lower in ONGC fields because the fields are mature whereas high water cut is response in the sharp decline in production in OIL fields
8As for gas production, the inexorable decline from RIL's D-6 block is contributing to the malice
8However, there is likely to be significant incremental gas output pouring in from ONGC's new field developments and that is likely to offset the decline in the short to medium term.
