A unique fast-track, low capex Small Scale LNG (SSLNG) project has just been launched in Africa and can be a model for India as well.
8The “Proof of Concept” SSLNG uses flexible multigas vessels to provide near and medium term LNG
8The vessels have a shallow draft, which means they can operate in smaller ports with water draft and with length restrictions and limited access to a jetty in port.
8The vessels can load at conventional LNG terminals with its multiple height manifolds, and the vessels can arrange to offload where there is no jetty or limited jetty capability. There is a unique patented on-board LNG re-liquefaction plant that handle boil-off (BOGs)
8In addition, the cargo system can withstand pressure and the deck tank is designed for easy change of grade, allowing for efficiency and flexibility.
8Essentially, stranded assets can be provided gas at very short notice and in flexible quantities.

Find out how India has become the dumping ground for the global pet coke industry
8In the US, the use of PetCoke in power generation has plummeted due to heavy restrictions.
8Until 2014, China was the biggest buyer of US Petcoke. But sulphur restrictions and local bans on new power plants have closed this supply from US.
8Import of pet coke is under the Open General Licence (OGL). Not restricted like other hHazardous substances
8Import of Petcoke increased more than 14 times, since 2010-11 -- Compounded Annual Growth Rate of 45.92%.
8Lower prices incite petcoke use. Under GST, these fuels are in 18%  slab. But Input tax under GST is credited back to the industry, -- effective tax rate is 0%
8Cleaner alternatives such as Natural Gas and Electricity are taxed high – as high as 26% in some states.

The introduction of the GST has impacted the oil sector in many more ways than one.
8The exclusion of petroleum products is just one of the issues
Among the problems plaguing the industry are:
8The allowing of C form for purchase of excluded oil & gas products only for limited manufacturing activities and high VAT rate on excluded petroleum products
8Substantial credit for capital goods to be reversed with 18% interest. There is also difficulty in figuring out assets excluded and included
8ISGT paid is a cost for the oil and gas industry; resulting in increased cost due to dual taxation
8No clarity on whether corporate office, zonal office concepts needed to charge GST on other units
8There are problems with credit reversal in case of service and trading turnover
8No clarity yet on inter-unit billing for transportation through pipeline: Is GST payable in each state for self-supply of transportation of goods to subsequent state?
8Transportation of petroleum products through pipeline falls under residuary entry in Schedule 3 and is taxable at a very high 18%
8GST is payable on stock transfer of goods between two registrations, and that is a problem
8Payment for acquisition of land for laying pipeline or construction of refinery comes under GST
818% GST is levied on goods used for setting up new refineries or expansion of an existing refinery

Recent announcements that manufacturers will soon sell autonomous cars raise hopes that self-driving vehicles will soon be widely available and solve many transportation problems.
8Advocates predict that by 2030, such vehicles will be sufficiently convenient and affordable to displace most human-operated vehicles.
8But the transition is not going to be easy
8It is likely to be chaotic
8And while everyone believes the benefits will come in the 2020s, they will not for a long time to come.
8The projection of this analysis is that autonomous vehicles become common and affordable, probably on in the 2040s to 2060s, and some benefits may require prohibiting human-driven vehicles on certain roadways, which could take longer.

The website carries here a comprehensive Linear Programming (LP) model used by the oil & gas consultant to arrive at an optimal refinery configuration involving an expansion in India
8LP is a mathematical technique for determining the most optimum allocation of resources to achieve a particular objective when there are alternative uses for the resources.
8Optimizing the operation of refinery or the determination of the optimal configuration is a typical application of linear programming.
8The refinery is described by a set of given equations and/ or inequalities involving variables, and solved by finding the non-negative values of these variables which satisfy the equations and inequalities while also maximizing profits.
8This analysis involved the creation of a model that represented nearly 2000 equations and more than 2000 variables.
8The end result is an upcoming 5 MMTPA expansion and all other attendant relationships
8Find out the full range of parameters which get thrown up from this programming model.

We have built a unique first-of-its-kind database of oil gas contacts in the country.

8Unlike a regular directory, very contact in our project monitoring software comes with a rich tapestry of information on the industrial facility and the unit in which the contact is present, along with attendant business development prospect, if any, around the contact. Every contact information is validated by our team of in-house analysts -- who are all mechanical engineers rigorously trained to look for little details -- on a regular three-monthly basis.
Around a contact within an industrial facility we give you a whole lot of additional information including:
-- Technology parameters
-- Design and actual Input-Output data for every raw material and product
-- Multi-parameter utility matrix
-- Long term maintenance contracts
-- Feedstock data
-- NIC codes
8A facility is further split up into its individual units and for each unit we have a similar set of parameters as in the facility
8And for each unit or facility, we have a resultant business development prospect, either in terms of maintenance prospect or a capital project, be an additional expansion or debottlenecking or a revamp or a new capital project
8The point to note is that we are always looking ahead and never behind, giving you exclusive information not on a tender that is already out but on a genuine future prospect, which may be a month, six months, a year or two years away from being tendered out.
8Having worked in the business for more than two decades, we know what you are looking for.
8India has so far had a poor business prospect database because the existing databases do not fulfill the requirements of a business development manager. What we have done is just plugged that gap
8For you, a deal can just be a phone call away

Where is India headed now in the electric vehicle revolution?
8Latest data indicate that the annual total cost (ATC) of ownership of a commercial three-wheeler is already lower than a conventional unit and post BS-VI, the differential will widen to 25%. What is more, the purchase cost too is expected to be lower. A mild push by the government can bring about a wholesale transformation of the market
8The ATC of a two wheeler is currently 6% higher than its petrol counterpart but post BS-VI, this cost will be 13% lower, according to latest estimates. The purchase cost will equal out too
8As for commercial passenger vehicles, current ATC is 18% higher but post BS-VI, the cost will come down by 4%. The purchase cost of a diesel vehicle will be higher than an EV while petrol cars will be cheaper.
8As for privately owned vehicles, the ATC differential will come down from 40% now to 10% post BS-VI.
8A component-wise cost structure comparison of a conventional and a battery car is given here, showing where the differentials arise

Now that the award of three more ammonia-urea projects has been settled, the demand for gas from the fertilizer sector is likely to see a sharp increase beginning early 2019.
8A CBM based urea plant was recently commissioned but it will eventually end up seeking more natural gas.
8The website carries here an overview of the fertilizer sector and its peculiar cost-plus dynamics. India's import dependence for urea is coming down, and some optimists think that the country in fact can become an exporter of urea.
8The likely commissioning dates of new projects do not necessarily mean a higher offtake of LNG as the commissioning dates are likely to match with first gas from the KG Basin developments.
8But going ahead, if new urea projects get traction, more capacity can come up, as India's demand for urea will continue to rise on the back of the government's attempt to increase farm income and productivity.

The world needs to continue working to protect the climate—this is generally undisputed. However, there is no agreement on which technologies should be used to decarbonize the energy sector.
8Many international scenarios still assume a relevant role for nuclear power in the future.
8However, a study shows that the Paris climate protection target -- limiting global warming to below two degrees -- can be achieved inexpensively without nuclear power.
8The results of a global energy system model indicate that no new nuclear power plants have to be built in order to meet the global climate target.
8It would be cheaper to use a combination of renewable energy and energy storage systems isntead.
