The retail outlet will be the first to feel the brunt of the world going electric.
8In a future world of centralized fleets and at-home, overnight electric refueling, the role and value for these sites will stand diminished.

It is now official. One of the world's largest research agencies has said that increasing adoption of electric vehicles will begin to tell on oil refining, retail fuel and lubricants demand sooner than was anticipated earlier.
8What is more, oil companies are beginning to underestimate how the confluence of multiple forces outside the oil and gas industry will increase the velocity and impact of the switch to the electric from the internal combustion engine.
8Specifically, the introduction of autonomous vehicles, coupled with Mobility as a Service (MaaS), will combine with additional societal and technology trends to drive a more precipitous disruption than typically expected—one which is likely to pull electric vehicles into the market and shift the composition of the fleet much quicker than currently anticipated.
8These external forces will usher in a fundamentally new transportation paradigm and begin to disrupt downstream companies in the coming years. What currently seems like a slow-moving threat may have dramatic near-term business implications.

Find out more on why US LNG has become profitable in the Asian market
8Find out the oil price lines and US LNG breakeven levels in Asia
8What kind of netbacks are available at current crude prices?
8US LNG pricing is taken at HH+15%, Tolling Fee: 2.25$, Shipping: 1.43$ (US East ->Japan, 174k cbm Me-GI or X-DF)
8Oil indexed LNG price is taken at a  Slope: 14% of JCC price with a Constant: 0.5$
8The point to note is that in 2017, average  JCC = 53,3$/b and Henry Hub = 3,0$/Mbtu.
8This makes US LNG be priced at 7.1$/Mbtu and oil-indexed LNG at 8.0$/Mbtu
8The projections for 2018 is positive for US LNG cargoes
8This then begs the question of how GAIL is looking at this business, given its US LNG commitments.
8Did it panic when it decided to go for swaps?

We haven't seen the end of the clean energy revolution yet. The energy future is changing fast enough but the change can accelerate dramatically in the future.
8At the core of this revolution is the massive rush to develop new, high-performance, low-cost materials that are resilient, safe for humans and the environment, recyclable, and use abundant elements so that they can be deployed globally.
8These new materials can cause the cost of energy to go down to exceeding low levels, thereby bringing about another subsequent revolution in carbon free way of making petrochemicals, fertilizers and chemicals.
8This challenge is now seen not merely as an engineering problem but in a fundamentally different way. And it involves new design principles and the way matter is organized from the atomic to the system scale.
8It is acknowledged that the new search, that will take hundreds or thousands of time more effort than was needed for the Manhattan project that lead to the discovery of the nuclear bomb, is not possible within the existing scientific paradigm where human intuition has a big role.
8If you are an oil & gas practitioner, and if you think your world or business model is safe, then you may be forced to think again sooner than later.
Click on Reports for more. Details
Beyond the areas of interest, the target areas are:
8Photovoltaics: Bring down costs to levels where carbon free production of petrochemicals and chemicals become feasible
8Batteries: Emphasis on dramatically new technologies
8Solar fuels: More efficient catalysts based on cheaper, earth-abundant elements
8Wind Power: Improved materials and efficiencies that brings about a step-change in the use of wind energy.
8Thermal energy conversion: The use of radically new technology
8Gas separation and storage: Bring about new insights through clearer structure-property relationships and high-order, new technology CO2 capture technology
8Power transmission: Discovery of superconducting materials at ambient temperatures which will effectively eliminating losses.
Click on Reports for more Details
Where is this new technology going to be deployed? The areas of focus of new research are on:
8Smart Grids: To enable future grids that are powered by affordable, reliable, decentralized renewable electricity systems.
8Off-Grid Access to Electricity: To develop systems that enable off-grid households and communities to access affordable and reliable renewable electricity.
8Carbon Capture: To enable near-zero CO2 emissions from power plants and carbon intensive industries.
8Sustainable Biofuels: To develop ways to produce, at scale, widely affordable, advanced biofuels for transportation and industrial applications.
8Converting Sunlight: To discover affordable ways to convert sunlight into storable solar fuels.
8Clean Energy Materials: To accelerate the exploration, discovery, and use of new high-performance, low-cost
clean energy materials.
8Affordable Heating and Cooling of Buildings: To make low-carbon heating and cooling affordable for everyone.

The use of silicon to make solar cells was the end result of 60 years of R&D
8But this traditional, human researcher-centric methods, however, are now insufficient for providing the materials innovations needed to deliver ubiquitous clean energy.
8The world has reached the limits of the human mind to assimilate the level of detail and magnitude of data that are now produced by experiments and computational simulations.
8Computer simulations with current computer power are approaching the limit to predict the properties of matter at the relevant length and time scales.
8Groups of scientists are now working hard reducing new materials development cycle from 20 years to 1 or 2 years.
8They are building on recent scientific breakthroughs and the ability to program machines to assist the design of materials, moving away from the drudgery of Edisonian discovery methods. Such breakthroughs allow scientists to order whole families of new materials based on desired properties without tedious hours of trial and experiments in the lab.
8The development of new AI-assisted theoretical methods has just begun speeding up the simulation and design and material synthesis capabilities beyond the scale of any human team.
8And the impact of these new sets of discoveries will be felt in the world of energy in lesser time than was thought earlier.
8The new approach uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, next generation computing, robotics, nano technology and inverse designing.
8The attempts are to evolve a Moore's law for research where the rate of research doubles every two years

8GST reforms move India much closer to something resembling a country-wide single market because crossing state borders is so much easier.
8This will transform warehousing and transportation networks
8Large companies are expected to reshape their supply chain networks as the new tax regime will no longer incentivise setting up one major warehouse in each state.
8Inventory will be centralized and national warehouse networks will consist of fewer but larger interconnected warehouses.
8A full design is carried here of where warehouses are likely to be located under the new paradigm.

Remodelled warehouse networks will entail new transportation networks.
8Networks with fewer warehouses are associated with lengthier average transport distance for shipments and therefore higher transportation costs.
8For major warehouses in newly formed networks, full truckload services will become increasingly economical and therefore more prevalent.
8In addition, there will have to be a corresponding increase in less-than-truckload movements to regional markets.
8Cross-docking facilities, where freight is rapidly unloaded, sorted and then loaded on to outbound trucks, will become more common as hub and spoke networks develop.

LNG prices did spurt towards the end of 2017 and the so far prices look like they are going to stay high for some more time
8But not for too long.
8After a winter of record high LNG prices, the market is bracing again for a year of structural oversupply, as the strength of China and emerging Asian markets seems insufficient to bridge the gap between growing global supplies and declining consumption among legacy Asian buyers such as Japan, Taiwan and Korea.
8Global supply capacity growth is expected to outpace demand growth in 2018, with 31.8 million mt/year of new capacity due to come online, versus a forecast global demand growth of 23.3 million mt year on year.
8For 2018, more than 50% of the new incoming supply capacity will come from Australia, with 2018 startups largely expected towards the start and end of the year.

After a year of faltering growth, India's oil demand is set to stage a recovery in 2018
8Latest assumptions are that Indian growth will be around 300,000 b/d in 2018
8Most oil analysts are of the view that the initial teething problems of India's key economic reforms -- demonetization and the Good and Services Tax -- are largely over, setting the stage for demand to bounce back in 2018. But rising crude oil prices could have some dampening impact on demand.
8Find out more which segments -- diesel and ATF, for example -- will grow the fastest.

ONGC is a big company by any yardstick with thousands of employees.
8But from a business development manager's point of view, only a couple of hundred key decision makers matter. And some of these key people are not just executive directors or asset mangers or even general managers. There are DGM level executive in key positions as well.
8These executives conceive new projects, put them into commercial shape, invite RFQs and take decisions on them.
8Like with ONGC, there are similar key executives in other oil companies too, be it Oil India, RIL, or even downstream companies such as IOC, BPCL HPCL and GAIL.
8Below this super structure are big consulting and EPC companies, such as L&T, EIL and a range of big multinational companies. They remain low profile but there are key contacts in each of them who have a say in the next layer of RFQs that come out for oil and gas equipment and services. Identifying them is the key to becoming a successful business development manager.
8It is in this context that our project monitoring tool comes in most handy. Our contact list is not two dimensional directory. It is not a mere listing of names.
8What we do is build a whole set of data points around each contact, in terms of the project or projects he is involved in, the industrial enterprise he is located in or related to, and the company he belongs to.
8We have hundreds of data points around an industrial activity, at the company, location, facility and unit or even equipment (such a boiler, turbine or generator) level.
8And we have a very trained eye and our team of mechanical engineers knows what our client is precisely looking. He is looking for a future business opportunity, which is tightly defined, and that is not publicly known yet. And that is exactly what we provide him.
8Our oil & gas database contains hundreds of carefully selected critical contacts, with their name, address, designation, functional role, emails and telephone numbers, whether on site or not, and spread over hundreds of projects where business opportunities are going to be available in the future.
8All of this is wrapped up in a highly interactive software that allows for easy maneuvering with an added CRM backend for storage of critical projects and contacts that you may select our of our big database. Assign a selected project or contact to a member of your team and do the follow up within our CRM.
8We just don't give access to our database, we also provide our client with a dedicated engineer, with whom he can interact regularly. He can check out a rumor, seek more information, or look for a clarification.
8And all of this comes at an incredibly low cost.
