Indian and foreign scientists are working on producing Dimethyl ether (DME) as a clean-burning synthetic fuel that can be produced from natural gas, coal, biomass, or directly from carbon dioxide. 8DME in fact is a versatile fuel suitable for vehicles, electricity generators, and gas cookers; and can be used as a blend stock with LPG or a diesel substitute. 8Applying the principles of process intensification, a miniaturised plant has been developed which shrinks the three-step chemical process to convert natural gas into DME. Process intensification uses novel design and manufacturing techniques that allow a process to be made smaller without the loss of production capacity. 8These mini-plants have the advantages of being more energy efficient and cheaper to build, meaning the requirement for large reserves of, say, natural gas isn’t imperative. 8A new bunch of producers who are entering the E&P market may find this technology useful to monetize isolated gas reserves. How oil prices are going to behave is of keen interest to the oil & gas industry in India 8What really is the consensus price of oil for 2018 and 2019? 8There are different factors at play. Iranian, Venezuelan and Angolan shortfall can be made up by other producers. With 167% compliance rate, OPEC & partners have ample room to cover any gap left by Iran, Angola and Venezuela. 8But demand is going up robustly as well at an above average rate. Inventory data continues to point towards a tighter market 8And recent time spreads display mixed signals 8If prices skyrocket, OPEC spare capacity is, for now, enough to prevent a higher risk premium 8In the US, Permian shale is driving U.S. production to record-highs but transportation bottlenecks limit impact on international prices 8What is of primary concern is a significant upward shift in the long-term portion of the forward curve and this highlights the potential impact of underinvestment. Know more how much oil can come into the market at higher oil prices and from where. 8Find out more on what price this analysis attributes to crude oil in the current year and the next. Find out what different analysts are predicting 8Beyond 2019 however, the projections get uncertain Click on Reports for more

Here is a story of breakdown of an exceptional repair job of a process gas compressor that broke down in an Indian Oil refinery. The high-pressure piston rod became detached at the crosshead connection and hit the cylinder head. The parts were heavily damaged and it was not possible therefore to dismantle them and reassembly 8The refinery was at high risk as it was running on just one standby compressor 8A compressor manufacturer was roped in to repair the standby compressor which was made by a different company. 8After a detailed analysis, the required parts were engineered and manufactured, and reverse engineered where needed. The existing plate valve and actuators were upgraded and so were the piston rod glands. 8The repairer also developed, manufactured and installed new high and low pressure sealing elements while also rectifying the cylinder head end support foundation 8The piston rod was upgraded with Tungsten Carbide (TC) coating for longer lifetime Click on Reports to know more oabout this remarkable story

A pitched battle is being fought over the Panna-Mukta Tapti award in a UK court as of now. 8But in these very courts the Indian government is also fighting the enforceability of a similar award that went against it. 8Find out more on why foreign courts have the right to enforce these awards 8And while these enforcements are supposedly final, questions are now being raised by none other than the government of India itself on their enforceability. 8Ironically, RIL-Shell can take the same position as is being taken by the government of India in Indian courts just now 8Clearly, long legal battles are likely to ensue even after a final verdict comes in on the PMT arbitration award Click on Reports for more

The government may end up confronting its own position on on foreign arbitration awards when it comes to enforcing the multi-billion dollar ruling on the Panna-Mukta and Tapti (PMT) fields in its favour 8The question under review here will be whether Indian court will have the jurisdiction to take on a challenge to a foreign arbitration award. 8A foreign oil & gas arbitration award was challenged by the petroleum ministry and despite having lost the appeal in the High Court it has moved the Supreme Court for redressal. A two-member Supreme Court bench could not decide on this sensitive issue despite 19 hearings and the matter has not been sent to the Chief Justice for reference to a larger bench. 8In effect, therefore, RIL and Shell can throw a spanner in the enforcement of the award by challenging it in an Indian court, citing that the Supreme Court is still to address the issue on whether such an award can be litigated in an Indian court Click on Reports for more
