8Commodity derivative volumes are generally a multiple of the underlying physical commodity volumes. In India, the volumes traded on commodity futures exchanges is very low as compared to the size of the physical market or the GDP. Thus, the potential for commodity derivatives is huge. Is there an opportunity for oil & gas derivatives to take off or will market imperfections, such as lack of liqudity and too few players, come in the way? Click on Report for more.

8The Indian economy has been mauled by demonetization and GST and yet the future can be bright if the government treads carefully from here on. A focus on supply-side reforms will likely yield better results than pursuing aggressive policies to lift demand. Speeding up project clearances, simplifying the taxation (including GST) regime, improving the ease of doing business – including cutting red tape, and continued progress in addressing banking sector stress will help bolster the country’s growth potential. A focus on demand-boosting policies could ignite inflationary pressures, which might have to be curbed through interest rate rises, rendering them less effective. Click on Report for more. Details

We are proud to claim, immodestly perhaps, that we have developed one of the world's most sophisticated project monitoring softwares. It comes integrated with a CRM package.
8We capture hundreds of parameters around a project in the software.
8The software is also capable of generating hundreds of pages of detailed reports from its MSQL database, giving you dozens of ways to slice up the information.
8At the backend, we only employ engineers to feed in primary data from our contacts around the country.
8Importantly, it is not a static but a dynamic software that moves with a project, giving you scores of updates until the project is commissioned.
8The software has been built to forecast future project movements and business opportunities based on existing progress parameters.
8For example, in the KG-DWN-98/2 block, we know exactly how far the project has progressed and we can estimate project activities, from one month to a year and for a longer period as the project moves beyond the selection of consultants.
8Regular interactions with key owner contacts, potential consultants as well as equipment and service providers allow us to bring you updates as and when any of the many parameters we monitor changes. The change can happen in a week or in a few months. An alert will go to you as and when changes happen.  An update can be a minor one like the postponement of an RFQ date or a major change that involves changes in multiple project sensitive parameters.
8We spend the bulk of our time providing you verified contacts associated with a project -- at the level of the owner or the contractor or sub contractor -- along with their telephone numbers.
8Our archiving system allows you to keep track of how the project has moved over time. Every change is captured in our archives.
8The scale of our ambition is vast and so we are still filling in parts of our software. We now have updates on select high value petroleum projects. As for fertilizer projects, our other area of specialization, we have captured the full gamut of activity around all projects.
8A business development executive usually exudes confidence on his coverage of his area of operation but he will be surprised with what the software can throw up.
8A live analyst will always be there to support you. You just have to pick up the phone and call.

We have built a unique first-of-its-kind database of oil gas contacts in the country.

8Unlike a regular directory, very contact in our project monitoring software comes with a rich tapestry of information on the facility and the unit in which the contact is present, along with attendant business development prospect, if any, around the contact. Every contact information is validated by our team of in-house analysts

In an industrial facility we give you a whole lot of additional information including
 -- Technology parameters
-- Design and actual Input-Output data for every raw material and product
 -- Multi-parameter utility matrix
 -- Long term maintenance contracts
 -- Feedstock data
 -- NIC codes

8A facility is further split up into its individual units and for each unit we have a similar set of parameters  as in the facility

8And for each unit or facility, we have a resultant business development prospect, either in terms of maintenance prospect or a capital project, be an additional expansion or debottlenecking or a revamp or a new capital project

8The point to note is that we are always looking ahead and never behind, giving you exclusive information not on a tender that is already out but on a genuine future prospect, which may be a month, six months, a year or two years away from being tendered out.

8Having worked in the business for more than two decades, we know what you are looking for.

8India has so far had a poor business prospect database because the existing databases do not fulfill the requirements of a business development manager. What we have done is  just plugged that gap

8For you, a deal can just be a phone call away

India's oil dependency will go up to a whopping 97% by 2050, according to a leading research institute.
8Efforts at halting this inexorable rise in dependency ratio is unlikely to bear much fruit given India's poor hydrocarbon prospectively.
8What is more, high-cost Indian crude production will not be possible to be sustained in the light of low-cost output coming in from the Middle East
8India's dependency will be amongst the highest in the world

There was a strong negative Iranian reaction to the Indian attempt to curtail crude offtake from Iran if the Farzad B gas field was not awarded to the ONGC Videsh Ltd.

The new thinking is that dramatically new technologies will have to come into existence to stop global warming.
8The CO2 cost is pegged at $ 85/tonne by 2050 and much more by 2100 and onwards.
8A hydrogen-based energy system is where the eventual transition will have to be by 2050
8New nuclear technology -- using paradigm changing technological advances -- will have ascendancy.
8Among the new ideas are many 2 km long orbiting solar power stations.
8It will not be battery powered cars which will dominate the globe by 2050. It will have to be fuel celled cars, with as many as 2.6 billion cars on the road by then. Or else global CO2 emission levels will be difficult to bring down.
8Carbon capture will have tobe  compulsorily introduced and coal will remain viable as a result
8However hydrogen fired power plants will be the mainstay of the global energy system.
8The problem is that the way the world is going, unless these dramatically new technologies are introduced, global warming will not be kept in check with the existing array of tools at our disposal.Click on Report for more Details
The oil & gas narrative continues to change very rapidly in the midst of high volatility, rapid climate change and the advent of disruptive technology.
8For the oil & gas planner, it is imperative to stay focused on the latest developments.
8The new narrative now seems to suggest that the world will need to go beyond solar and wind energy to solve its energy dilemma, which is to provide energy security amidst global warming.
8The new data shows that the domination of fossil fuels will not go away with the introduction of electric cars and conventional renewable energy given the voracious appetite for energy now emerging from the developing world even as energy demand comes down in developed countries.
8Fresh research shows that gas is going to be the most dominant fuel by 2050, overwhelming both crude and coal. In this context, the ONGC and RIL-BP investments in the KG Basin are astutely timed for now.

The Yamuna River that flows through Delhi has helped sustain some of India’s greatest empires. Hindu poets celebrated its life-giving properties. The Mughal dynasty built the Taj Mahal and other monuments along its banks. Today, the Yamuna is a foul sludge for much of its 855-mile run. In Delhi, it is black and nearly motionless, covered in many areas with a foam of industrial chemicals, floating plastic and human waste.
8Every 100 milliliters of the Yamuna in Delhi contains 22 million fecal coliform bacteria, up from 12,250 in 1988, scientists say. Anything over 500 is unsafe for bathing, the government says.
8Unlike China, which has become wealthier and is starting to clean up, India is in the early stages of industrial growth. It is following the same road China took to get richer, meaning more factories and cars. Yet, it already has some of the world’s worst environmental problems.
8One reason India is an environmental mess at such an early stage of its development is that it has failed to master the basic services of sewage and water treatment which some other developing nations addressed when incomes rose.

Fresh research now indicates that there will never be an interaction of demand and supply curves for LNG
8Earlier, there were strong indicators that the supply overhang will disappear by early 2020s
8This timeline was pushed forward to 2025 in the face of impending new liquefaction FIDs.
8But even as the demand curve swings upwards, fresh LNG capacity, propped up by a world awash in gas, will reach FID stage
8In this context, therefore, there is unlikely to be a sharp spike in LNG prices as a result of a supply constraint in the future

Even as Prime Minister Modi called for a reduction in the oil import bill by 10% by 2022, India's oil dependency is going up instead of down as of now
8India's crude self sufficiency ratio has come down from 17.6% in September 2016 to 16.8% for the same month this year
8Meanwhile, there is a 10% surge in petroleum product consumption, the highest since August 2016, when demand had jumped 18.2 per cent.
8The rise comes on the back of a 6.1 per cent drop in demand in August 2017, the most since April 2003, as floods ravaged several parts of the country curbing demand for diesel and petrol.
8The September surge has translated into a 1.5% growth in April-September 2017 consumption as compared to 9.9% for the same period last year.
8Overall, gas consumption was up and so was LNG demand in September. Yet LNG offtake in April-September was lower by 1.6% compared to the same period last year.

The double digit growth in petroleum consumption is likely to continue well into the future and aberrations, of the kind seen this year, will just be temporary blips.
8India is likely to remain the biggest market for crude in the world even as demand shrinks elsewhere, and the world sees peak demand kicking in the 2020s, according to a research report just released.
8Petrol and diesel demand between now and 2050 will see the highest growth rate in the world, and India's speed of growth will be twice as fast as China's.
8The rise in demand for transportation fuel will be higher even as India's per capita vehicle ownership remains lower than other big countries, including China

Advanced technological solutions will have to kick in quickly or else carbon emission levels will continue to rise alarmingly.
8And even with technological advancements, emission control is going to be very tough indeed, according to detailed data now available.
8For the first time, projections are now being pushed not just to 2050 or 2100 but to 2150, and an attempt is being made to see how carbon emission controls may have to go on for longer, involving multiple human generations.
8Different temperature rise scenarios are then contemplated, involving carbon emission control, mitigation as well as damage control.

New future technologies are now being thought of and, eventually, they will have to begin playing a preponderant role for temperatures to drop.
Carbon damage control technology will be at the forefront of this technological surge. The following developments will need watching, according to a new analysis:
8Production of carbon compounds as chemical raw  materials, using CO2 as feedstocks for electrochemical photochemical methods to remove carbon from the atmosphere
8Absorption of carbon from the atmosphere by photosynthesis using specially grown plants.
8Production of carbon-free hydrogen by steam reforming of fossil fuels and using carbon capture and storage to harness the CO2 that is generated.
8Technologies for solar PV power generation in space will be on the ascendancy where sunlight intensity is higher and then transmit generated electricity to the earth wirelessly via microwave and other ways.
8Fourth-generation nuclear reactors such as ultra-high-temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR) and fast reactors, and small- and medium-sized reactors are now being developed internationally.
8Technology to extract energy just like the sun by nuclear fusion of small mass number such as hydrogen. This will ensure that spent nuclear fuel as high-level radioactive waste is not produced.

The latest analysis shows that even though peak oil demand is reached quickly enough in the 2020s, crude demand will go down on a slow curve up to 2050
8There won't be a sudden wilting of demand even with the advent of electric cars.
8Then again, even as crude demand shrinks, the offtake of natural gas will be significantly higher by 2050, the new analysis shows.
8For countries such as India, the domestic oil & gas industry will shrink as will it in most other parts of the world,
8Production will shift to the low-cost Middle East region.
8And even though output shifts to the Middle East, low oil prices will shrink incomes and the region is likely to see a huge amount of instability.

Find out more about how the Amercian coal lobby is fighting back to ensure that it still continues to remain viable
8A study has been commissioned that shows the US as saving $114 billion per year in electricity costs, lowering the average retail price of power by 27%.
8The lobby is arguing that potentially higher prices could lead to a loss of 1 million jobs within 3 years, a loss of $158 billion in US GDP within 3 years and a loss of up to $845 per year in income for every U.S. household.
8Lobbies are extremely effective in the US not just because the entire exercise is better structured than in countries such as India but also because they back up their demands with solid data
8That is not the case in India. Research is usually sloppy and so is the presentation. Most Indian lobbies are also badly under-funded.
8There is a lot to learn from how US lobbies commission reports and present information.

The flexible delivery LNG market is evolving very quickly and its annual share is likely to go up every year.
8Inadequate tie-up of long-term contracts will delay final investment decisions for new liquefaction plants.
8Then again, in the face of a larger demand for flexible supplies, liquefaction plants are also setting up more demand responsive facilities.
8A number of smaller modular liquefaction plants are coming up as are floating liquefaction units.
8Risks are now sought to be shared instead of borne alone. ENI, the developer of the Coral facility in Mozambique, chose to contract all 4.6 bcm of its capacity to BP, a portfolio player, rather than trade the LNG directly itself.

For the gas supplier eying the power generation market in India, it is important to have a clear and objective look at the market.
8Today, while grid level cost of renewable power has fallen to the variable cost of coal, even standalone rooftop solar power supply is at around Rs 5/kwh. Gas based power can be, depending on the price of LNG,  twice as expensive at the outer band.
8This brings in a new twist entirely to the whole paradigm.
8The point to also note is that almost 50% of the sale of electricity today is above the breakeven price of rooftop power today.
8The old cross-subsidy models in electricity will have to be junked. And there is now a real possibility of large customers moving out of the grid entirely or tapping the grid only when needed.
8There are innovative power supply models now available, which combines renewable energy with diesel generation sets to provide seamless power in off-grid locations.
8Is there a possibility of gas turbines replacing diesel generation sets in this niche segment?
8Whatever else happens, we can expect some dramatic disruptions in the business models surrounding the power sector.

While pundits are busy trying to project when demand is going to exceed supply in the LNG business, as at that point in time the price is expected to spike in relation to what it is today, they ignore the possibility of gas being out priced compared to its alternatives in the market.
8The latest global data shows both the Levelized Cost of Electricity from solar and wind power and auction prices continuing to fall very rapidly for installations coming up by 2020.
8The forecast for renewable energy is 12% more optimistic this year in relation to last year, and the growth rate can be up to 27% higher.
8Renewable generation's share will go up to 30% in 2022, rapidly closing the gap with coal.
8The only big challenge seems to be to ensure that the grid is flexible enough the absorb the surge.
Click on Reports for more Details
Latest data continues to indicate that gas-based power will be significantly more expensive than either coal, hydro, solar, nuclear and wind energy.
8The data seems to rule out the possibility of gas-based power coming into the grid under the current merit order system.
8This is possibly the reason why policy makers are finding it difficult to integrate gas into the energy economics of India
8A quick look at the data indicates that even a bundled tariff package of gas-based power with cheaper wind or solar power will make the eventual cost more expensive under the merit order system at present.

The used motor oil business in India is a huge underground trade.
8Refining technologies adopted are mostly forbidden in other countries
8The output product quality is far from the minimum acceptable standards and many indulge in illegal blending activities.
8The scale of misuse is so vast that it makes it impossible for professional re-refining investors to get in.
8Used  engine oil can be re-refined but it requires an articulate and legitimate undertaking when it comes to selective collection, separation and storage.
8Collecting the used motor oil in a bulk mode and distributing it to light and medium industrial entities as a combustible is profitable but it is certainly illegal and immoral.

Used motor oil is dangerously polluting.
81 liter of used motor oil can contaminate 1,000,000 liters of water.
81 liter of used motor oil can kill a tree if poured next to it.
81 liter of used motor oil if burnt without proper reclamation, treatment and reformation can produce 10 times the carbon monoxide emission of a car running for one day and a diesel engine running for 8 hours.
